Bruce James Leonard

Bruce James Leonard, 31, died Saturday, February 17, 2018, in Homosassa, FL.

He was born August 12, 1986, at Topeka, the son of Dennis Darryl and Shelley Annette Acker Leonard.

Bruce lived in the Emmett and St. Marys communities and attended St. Marys Schools where he excelled in all sports.  He participated in all sports in early grade school and his father Darryl coached him.  Bruce loved the outdoors.   He especially enjoyed bow hunting and fishing.  His Happy Place was in the woods.  He loved cars, CHEVY cars, he was a Chevy man.

He worked for Marley Cooling Towers and traveled throughout the country.  Bruce had worked with his Grandpa Corky, at Smith & Chambers Salvage.  He was a member of Carpenters Union Local No. 61 in Kansas City, MO.

Bruce was preceded in death by grandparents, James D. Leonard and Doris Moody Kropp.

Survivors include a daughter, Cassidy Brunin, Topeka; his parents, Shelley (Edward Lee) Harcrow, Wamego and Darryl (Diane) Leonard, Junction City; three brothers, Dennis Leonard, Columbus, Derek Leonard, Emmett and Edward Harcrow, Wamego; a sister, Sabrina Leonard, Trenton, GA:  his grandparents, Corky and Rita Acker, Topeka.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Piper Funeral Home.  Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery St. Marys.  Bruce will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday, February 23, 2018 at the funeral home.  Casual clothing is requested for both the visitation and the Celebration of Life service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bruce’s name for an educational fund for Cassidy and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, Kansas 66536.

  8. I worked with Bruce on several different occasions. Last year we worked the Citrus County project. As mentioned, Bruce was happiest when hunting or fishing and likewise the time he spent time with “Cassidy”. We’ll miss you little buddy.

  9. What a total loss. Bruce was such a wonderful young man. He would contact his Uncle Chub when he was back in Kansas. Our love and prayers go to Darrell, Shelly and the family. RIP Bruce you will be greatly missed.
