Christina Matilda “Tina” Polson Olejnik

Rossville—Christina Matilda “Tina” Polson Olejnik, 85, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the St. Marys Manor.

 

She was born February 16, 1930 at Omaha, NE, the daughter of Ellis and Juanita Mitchell Polson.

 

Mrs. Olejnik was a homemaker and farm wife, farming with her husband north of Rossville and had worked at the St. Marys Manor for many years.  She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Rossville, where she served as an Elder and was a member of the Presbyterian Women.  She taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years and had completed the four-year Menninger Bible Course.  Mrs. Olejnik was a member and officer of the ZCBJ Lodge at Rossville, and served as a correspondent for the Western Fraternal Herald for many years.  Tina was a lifelong volunteer for the church, lodge and the Czech Moravan Cemetery.

 

On October 6, 1948 she was united in marriage to William Olejnik at Rossville.  He preceded her in death on November 17, 2014.  She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Tammy Olejnik and Lila (Doug) Wolc, a grandson, Blake Wolc and her sister Greta Polson Olejnik.

 

Survivors include her son, Robert (Kathy) Olejnik, Rossville; her daughter, Lisa (Jim) Pinney, Johnstown, NE; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 14, 2015 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys.  Interment will be in the Czech Moravan Cemetery north of Rossville.

 

Mrs. Olejnik will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Czech Moravan Cemetery or the Rossville Public Library and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.

  1. Another verse is finished in the song of the land. Those who preceded us in this “Golden Land” (as the original Czechs called it). I remember her in Church & sometimes in town, when I was still quite young. Her teachings in Sunday school live on – a wonderful legacy. s’bohem,a dobro denh.
