Felix Leander Hesse

St. Marys—Felix Leander Hesse, 90, passed away Sunday November 4, 2018 at the Community Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born May 30, 1928 at Paxico the first child of Leander P. and Irena A. Straub Hesse. Felix graduated from Paxico High School in 1946. He and his family moved from Paxico to St. Marys in 1960.
Felix was a farmer and worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka retiring in 1990 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1949. Felix was a member of the United Rubber Workers Union and the United Steel Workers Union Local No. 307 in Topeka.
On February 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to Orva Dell Collyge at Paxico. They celebrated their 50th anniversary before her death on August 13, 2001. He was also preceded in death by a son, James F. Hesse on January 15, 1999; siblings, Maxine Gilbert, Lavina Nicholson, Darlene Goss, John and Robert Hesse.
Survivors include two sons, Albert B. (Joyce) Hesse, Topeka, and Urban R. Hesse, Frankfort; three daughters, Rita A. (John) Moyer and Karen Jo (John) Suther, all of Topeka and Judy M. (Joe) Cunningham, Valley Falls; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 12, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until the Rosary at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Piper Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows (442 S. DeMazenod Dr, Belleville, IL 62223) or sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.

  1. Mr. Hess was always such a kind and thoughtful gentleman, and a wonderful neighbor to our young family. He would always let our little boys and the neighbor kids play in his lot next to his house, never complaining, even though I know that there were times when he could have.
    May his soul rest in peace. We are praying for the repose of his soul and for the comfort of the family.

  3. My condolences on your loss. Felix was a delightful person to be around. He and my father, James Akes , struck up a wonderful friendship at the manor and was a comfort to me when he passed. May he Rest In Peace.
