Shirley I. Jones, 78, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the St. Marys Manor. She was born August 11, 1938 at Gridley, Kansas the daughter of Harry and Dolly Wright Hensley. Shirley graduated from Gridley High School. She and her family moved to the St. Marys community in 1960. She had worked in the office of Dr. Bruce Carroll for several years. Shirley later was an EMT-I and worked for the Pottawatomie County Ambulance Service for many years. She enjoyed arts and crafts and always had a project that she was working on; she also loved to refinish antiques. Shirley was a member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. Shirley was united in marriage to Herbert H. Jones at Dumas, AR. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2006. Shirley was also preceded in death by two sons, Douglas, on October 1, 1983 and Robert on December 7, 2010, a granddaughter Ashley Ranae Jones on August 30, 1989 and a brother Harry James Hensley. Survivors include her son, Greg Jones, St. Marys; a brother, Gene Hensley, Manhattan; three grandchildren, Douglas, Jennifer and Mathew Jones; great-grandchildren, Aiyana Jones, Ashlyn Ellingsen, Everett Jones, Quilynn Jones and Vincent Jones. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the St. Marys United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, St. Marys. Mrs. Jones will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. Friday September 2, 2016 at Piper Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys Manor Bus Fund and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
