Benjamin F. "Bennie" Horak, 92, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at his home in Topeka. He was born September 24, 1920 near Delia the son of Ignac and Veronica Hejtmanek Horak. He attended Golden Rod Grade School and started farming for his father after his graduation. Bennie farmed all of his life and started to work for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in 1961 retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church. He was a member and past master of the Delia Masonic Lodge, the Delia High School School Board and Local Union No 307 United Rubber Workers. He was a charter member of the Delia Lions Club and had been a 4-H leader. Bennie had been a security guard at the Delia Missile site. He was a 75 year member of ZCBJ Lodge and a member of the Rossville Senior Center. Mr. Horak was a charter member of the US Bank Silver Elite Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Peggy Jean Workman, April 10, 2007, his twin brother Eddie and brothers Rudy and Elbert and his sister Rose. He was united in marriage to Sara Stum in August 1945 at Alma. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his son, Don Horak, Delia; sisters Emily Dodge, Irene Collett and Esther Wehner; 4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 30, 2012 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Mr. Horak will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Czech Moravan Cemetery North of Rossville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delia Presbyterian Church or to the Donor's Choice and sent in care of the funeral home.
