Effie Heim

St. Marys-Effie M. Heim, 85, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Community Hospital in St. Marys.

She was born May 5, 1928 at Paxico one of seven children of Herbert J "Pat" and Mabel D. Wilt Wrench. She was a graduate of Paxico High School, and attended Strickler Business College.

Effie was employed three years at the AT & SF offices in Topeka. She later was employed twenty-four years with USD #321, twenty two of those years as secretary at St. Marys Grade School. She and her husband Robert owned and operated Heim Retail Liquor Store in St. Marys from 1954 until 1989. Mrs. Heim had been the St. Marys City Treasurer from 1970 until 2010. Mrs. Heim was a member of Hoy-Heim American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered at the St. Marys Historical Society Museum.

On August 28, 1948 she was united in marriage to Robert P. Heim. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1990. Effie was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters and a granddaughter, Meagan.

Survivors are her children, Karen (Alan) Lett and Janet (David) Figge all of St. Marys and Bob (Kathy) Heim, Weston, MO; a brother, Edwin Wrench, Apalachin, NY; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Mrs. Heim will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Piper Funeral Home where the family will receive friends after 6:00 P.M. and a rosary will be recited at 7:00. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be made to the J ohnson Cancer Research Center at KSU and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St , St. Marys , Kansas 66536 .
