St. Marys-Felix Leander Hesse, 90, passed away Sunday November 4, 2018 at the Community Hospital in St. Marys. He was born May 30, 1928 at Paxico the first child of Leander P. and Irena A. Straub Hesse. Felix graduated from Paxico High School in 1946. He and his family moved from Paxico to St. Marys in 1960. Felix was a farmer and worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka retiring in 1990 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1949. Felix was a member of the United Rubber Workers Union and the United Steel Workers Union Local No. 307 in Topeka. On February 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to Orva Dell Collyge at Paxico. They celebrated their 50th anniversary before her death on August 13, 2001. He was also preceded in death by a son, James F. Hesse on January 15, 1999; siblings, Maxine Gilbert, Lavina Nicholson, Darlene Goss, John and Robert Hesse. Survivors include two sons, Albert B. (Joyce) Hesse, Topeka, and Urban R. Hesse, Frankfort; three daughters, Rita A. (John) Moyer and Karen Jo (John) Suther, all of Topeka and Judy M. (Joe) Cunningham, Valley Falls; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 12, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until the Rosary at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Piper Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys.
