Harry Jay Carpenter, 81, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023, at a Topeka hospital.
Harry was born April 30, 1941, in Topeka, the son of Albert Edward and Thelma Maurice Duvall Carpenter. He was raised in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School in 1959 and attended Washburn University. Harry was a member of the West Side Baptist Church. He was a member and past president of the Capital City Gun Club and was a member of SAR.
Harry worked in the family cleaning business, Spotless Cleaners, for 30 years. He then served as a deputy for the Wabaunsee County Sheriff Department. Harry was a security guard for BCBSKS for 13 years and later was an armored car guard for Garda and for Core First Bank until his retirement.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Edward, and twin-brothers, Clarence and Claude.
On August 28, 1960, Harry was married to Patricia A. Eddy in Dover. She survives.
Other survivors include his children, Albert (Susan) Carpenter, Topeka, and Lonna (Brian) Hersh, Topeka; four brothers, Edwin (Ginger) Carpenter, Auburn, Kenneth, Robert and David (Jane) Carpenter, all of Topeka. Eight grandchildren, Chelsea, Bradley (Bailee), Andrew (Laura), Dustin (Jeri), Whitney, Katelyn, Emily (Mohammad), and Shelby; five great-grandchildren, Arianna, Aiden, Rhett, Drew, and Graham.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 30, 2023, at West Side Baptist Church. Inurnment will be in the Dover Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Side Baptist Church (1008 SW 4th St, Topeka, KS. 66606) or sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
