Jean Cordts

St. Marys-Jean M. Cordts, 96, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the St. Marys Manor. She was born November 2, 1922 at Wamego, the daughter of Walter A. and Edith Harrell Cordts. She grew up in Wamego and graduated from Wamego High School where she played basketball. Jean was inducted into the Wamego High School Athletic Hall of Fame. She was on a team that played AAU basketball that made it to the quarter finals. Jean loved sports and played softball on many local teams. She and her siblings preformed in the Frank Wiziarde Circus throughout the area, she was the acrobat. Jean lived in Tucson, AZ, before moving back to Kansas. She was the site manager for the St. Mary Senior Center for many years. Jean was a member of the OES. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, June Meyer, Mary Ann Muller, and Walter H. Cordts. She is survived by three sisters, Kathleen O'Neill, Manhattan, Margery Baresel, N. KC.MO, and Annabel Dohrman, St. Marys. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Inurnment will be in Valley View Cemetery, St. Marys.
