Jerry Newby

Eskridge-Jerry D. Newby, 75 passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 at his home in Eskridge. He was born March 26, 1943 at Wichita, the son of Bon B. and Ardis Virginia Bourne Newby. Jerry was raised in the Yates Center community and graduated from Yates Center High School with the class of 1961. Jerry was in insurance management for several different insurance companies and had owned and operated his own agency. Some of the places he had lived throughout his career include Kansas City, Scottsdale, AZ; St. Paul, MN; Colorado Springs, CO; and Conway, AR. In 2003 he retired from the insurance industry. He and his wife Lorna move to Southeastern Kansas where they worked for Four County Mentally Health Center, working with the severely mental ill a job Jerry truly loved. He retired in 2007 and moved to the Eskridge community. Jerry was a member of the Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine. Jerry and Lorna lived for the children. He was an avid fisherman and loved to fish with his grandson Jerry. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Donna Hollingsworth and his son, Mark Newby on December 4, 2014. On December 30, 1964 he was united in marriage to Lorna Swenson at Eskridge. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Jerrod Newby. Eskridge; a daughter Jenniffer (Jerald) Brown, Loveland, CO; a brother-in-law, Roy Hollingsworth, KC, MO; grandchildren, Jerry D. Newby, Jordann, Rachell, Maddylynn and Llyliann Brown. Inurnment graveside services will be at 5:30 P.M. Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Eskridge Cemetery.
