Joan Eileen Barrett Peros 73, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023 at her home in Watsonville California. She battled stage four metastatic breast cancer for five years.
Joan was born on March 7th, 1950 in Martinez California to her parents Frank M. Barrett and Eileen V. Barrett. She grew up as the oldest of four children who are Daniel Barrett, Robert Barrett, and Betty Jean Levin.
She was a pioneering businesswoman and started her own State Farm Insurance Agency in 1979. She ultimately received her degree BA in Political Science from San Jose State University. In 1996 she ran for State Assembly and in 2000 she ran for County Supervisor. This led to many years of volunteering as a Radio Liberty talk show host and as Community TV Co-host and Co-producer. She had opportunities to travel to various Geopolitical and UN conferences to report on what was happening in the world. She was asked to join the Pajaro Valley Fire Protection District and became a board member and eventually Chairwoman of the board.
She was an active member of a Catholic Portuguese fraternal organization for women started by her great -great grandmother known as SPRSI. She held various positions in the organization and eventually became Grand President where she traveled the state and visited all the individual chapters of the organization. In 2008, she organized the merger of this organization with LUSO American. As an active member of her parish, she organized a group for ladies known as the Servants of Mary to help promote good catholic reading, the charitable support of its members, and the support of catholic causes in the community.
She is survived by her husband Nickolas John Peros Sr. of 39 years, her 4 children Kelly Marie Palmer, Noel Fredrick Palmer, Lydia Alexandra Peros, and Nickolas John Peros Jr and 10 grandchildren.
