Joann Lynne “Jody” Hiegert died on June 12, 2023, at the age of 66 in Twin Lakes, Colorado, while on vacation with her family.
Jody was born November 14, 1956, in Rocky Ford, Colorado, the fifth child of Ernest S. And Gertrude O. (Clark) Marks. She moved to Paxico, KS in 1973, where she met the love of her life, Keith E. Hiegert. They were united in marriage there on October 30, 1976. They made their home in Topeka for eleven years, then moved back to Wabaunsee County, in rural Maple Hill near Keene where they have lived since.
Jody was the Postmaster Relief and later, the Postmaster of Eskridge, Kansas for over twenty years until her retirement in 2013. She was also employed by the Pottawatomie-Wabaunsee Regional Library as a part-time library substitute for several years and was a computer operator at a Topeka bank for a short time before staying home with her children.
Jody enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, camping with her husband and family and many forms of crafting. Genealogy was her lifelong hobby.
She is survived by her husband, Keith; eight children: Jason and Jennifer Hiegert, Eskridge; Joshua and Elizabeth Hiegert, Nortonville; Jeremiah and Elizabeth Hiegert, Eskridge; and Annie and Joshua Compton, Eskridge; and by ten grandchildren: Nicole, Rebecca, Gregory, Annie O., Krischan, and Sean Hiegert, Alaster, Sora, Freya and Anton Compton. Other survivors include her siblings: Linda Cowan, Osage City; Tim (Lenora) Marks, Lorain, OH; Lori (Mike) Zeller, Paxico; and Jeff (Val) Marks, Maple Hill; and many, many nieces and nephews. Jody was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings; Sandra Marks-Johnson and David Marks Sr.
