Kathleen S. Sullivan, a beloved figure in the St. Marys community and a dedicated kindergarten teacher, passed away on January 19, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on October 12, 1931, in Chapman, Nebraska, Kathleen lived a life rich in service and devotion to her family and faith.
Kathleen graduated high school and later attended college, furthering her education and solidifying her commitment to nurturing the minds of young children as a kindergarten teacher for many years. Her impact on her students was profound, as she instilled in them a love for learning that they would carry through their lives.
A cherished member of the Immaculata parish in St. Marys for many years, Kathleen was deeply connected to her faith and community. Her legacy will be honored through a series of services at Immaculata Catholic Church located at 701 N 2nd Street, St. Marys, Kansas. A Rosary will be held on January 22, 2025, starting at 5:20 PM, followed by a Mass on January 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Kathleen will be laid to rest in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery following the funeral mass.
Kathleen is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Sullivan, Elizabeth Rosario, and Mary Ann Sullivan and her son, Joseph Sullivan. She is also survived by her sister, Gertrude McMahon, and an admirable lineage of twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Sullivan, and their son, Lawrence Sullivan. Other family members who have passed include her sister, Elizabeth Anne McMahon, her brothers, Ferrell McMahon and Peter McMahon, as well as her parents, Clyde and Gertrude McMahon (Farrell).
Kathleen S. Sullivan will be remembered not only for her contributions as an educator but also for her unwavering love for her family and her traditional Catholic faith. Kathleen’s life was imbued with the spirit of her traditional Catholic faith and was the focus of all her daily activities. Her gentle spirit and nurturing heart will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made for a set of Gregorian masses to be said for Kathleen’s intentions. Checks may be made to Piper Funeral Home for this memorial.
