Wamego-Leota E. Figge, 87, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Wamego Health Center. She was born September 7, 1928 at Hepler, Kansas the daughter of the Rev. Rudolph and Sophia Gehrke Hildebrandt. She lived in Hepler until moving to Duluth in 1941. Mrs. Figge graduated from Onaga High School in 1945. Mrs. Figge had lived in the St. Marys community for many years before moving to Wamego. Leota was known for the cakes she baked throughout the years. She had a love for painting and quilting. She had quilted many many quilts during her lifetime. She was a very active member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego and also the Heritage Club. On October 13, 1949 she was united in marriage to Carl R. Figge at Winsor, NE., by her father the Rev. Rudolph Hildebrandt. Carl died, November 7, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Alice List, Esther Balke, Ellen Zeckser, Lois Werner and Eugene Hildebrandt; her son William Figge and her son-in-law, Joe O'Donnell. Survivors include two sons, Bob (Sherilyn) Figge, Waco, TX, and David (Janet) Figge, St. Marys; three daughters, Mary O'Donnell, St. Marys, Eva (Fred) Burgoon, Wamego and Barbara (Lanny) Mullinix, Vernona, MO; a sister, Grace Springer, in Florida; a brother-in-law, Rodney List, Denton, TX; a sister-in-law Adela Lockhart, in Washington; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial services will be at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego. Inurnment will be in the Valley View Cemetery St. Marys.
