Marilyn Hobson McQuay passed away at Midland Care Hospice House Thursday, July 15, 2021.
Marilyn was born September 28, 1940, in Richmond, Kansas the daughter of Ray C. and Bertha Hobson. Marilyn attended school in Eskridge and graduated with the class of 1959 from Eskridge Rural High School.
She started working at the age of 16 for the local telephone company and transferred to Southwestern Bell after high school graduation. She lived in Kansas, Colorado, and Missouri where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper most of her adult life.
Marilyn married William McQuay in 1989. They spent several years living at Lake Pomme de Terre, Hermitage, MO. after retirement. She moved to Topeka in 2006.
Marilyn and sister in-law, Merna McQuay became co-owners of Ozark Wicks and Flames and made and sold candles several years. They had their own shop and went to many craft shows.
She and Bill enjoyed bowling, lake life and playing cards. They made many yearly trips to casinos with her siblings and spouses. Marilyn enjoyed sewing, crafts, puzzles, being with the family and loved dogs. She attended many sporting events to watch her nieces and nephews participate.
Marilyn is survived by her sister, Carol Shumate of the home she and Marilyn shared. Two sisters-in-laws, Emily Hobson, Columbus, Ohio and Nancy Hobson, Albuquerque, NM.
Five stepchildren, William McQuay (Bri), Ralph McQuay, Brian McQuay (Debbie), Brenda Kuder, and Bridget (Kevin) Chapman; several step grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; eight living nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews who all thought of her more as a grandmother than an aunt. Many other family members and friends who she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 2005; her parents Ray and Bertha Hobson, brothers, Norman and Richard Hobson, niece, Melody Hobson and step-grandson, Josh McQuay.
Memorial graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at the Eskridge Cemetery with inurnment to follow. A visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday, July 19, 2021, at 5963 SW 30th Terr., Topeka, Kansas 66614.
