Mary C. Lekanoff, a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on June 13, 1947, in Wamego, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Nellie Marstall. Mary graduated from St. Marys High School in 1965, embarking on a life filled with dedicated work and cherished family moments.
For 37 years, Mary served as a printing press operator for the state of Kansas, showcasing her strong work ethic and commitment to her profession before retiring in 2001. She was not only known for her work but also for her warm and loving personality. Those who knew her will remember her as a sweet lady with a great sense of humor, whose positivity radiated through her relationships and activities.
Mary was a devoted mother, and her proudest accomplishments included her children, Vicky and Vinnie. She took immense joy in watching them grow and thrive, embodying the love and support that every parent hopes to provide.
In addition to her family life, Mary had varied interests that reflected her vibrant personality. She enjoyed crocheting and, in her younger days, was fond of square dancing, activities that brought her joy and allowed her to connect with others.
Mary is survived by her siblings: brothers Bernard (Lorraine) Marstall, Frank (Rose) Marstall, Tom (Ruth) Marstall, Bob (Eileen) Marstall, Ed Marstall, and sister Patty (Marvin) Happel. She also leaves behind her children, Victoria Adams and Vincent (Stacey) Lekanoff, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Nellie Marstall; her brother, Frederick Marstall; her son-in-law, John Adams; her sister-in-law, Kathy Ice-Marstall Ayen; and family friend, Dawn Shibler.
Visitation will be held on February 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Piper Funeral Home, located at 714 Maple St, St. Marys, KS with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on February 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will be prepared, following the burial, at the Centennial Building.
Mary C. Lekanoff will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love and humor will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of her surviving family and friends.
