Mary Mees

St. Marys-Mary Amelia Tenbrink Mees, 100 passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the St. Marys Manor. She was born May 14, 1916 in the Kuenzli Creek comunity near Alma the daughter of John and Emma Stech Tenbrink. Mary graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1934. She taught school near Alta Vista for two years, then graduated from beauty school in Topeka, and opened her own beauty shop in Alma. She married Lawrence "Skeeter" Mees on July 30, 1941 in Oakland, CA. To this union 5 children were born; Margaret (Bob) Peterson, Belvue, James Mees, St. Marys, Barbara (Peter) Stewart, Silver City, NM., Stephen (Rhonda) Mees, St. Marys and Janet (Steve) Grummert, Jansen, NE; Besides her children she is survived by 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, a granddaughter, Jill Peterson and a grandson Jeremy Anderson. She was also preceded by her siblings, Eleanor (John) Schwalm, Joe, Alvina Allen, Linus, her twin Charles and Albert (Bud) Tenbrink. She loved spending time with her family, playing cards, and working in her yard. Mary remained active in her home until recently. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday October 3, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Mrs. Mees will lie in state and the family will receive friends on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. with a rosary recited at 6:00 P.M. at Piper Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys.
