Mitchell (Mick) Wayne Holz, Born May 31st 1946, the first born son of Paul Gene Holz and Mary Elizabeth (Edwards) Holz, passed away Sunday, December 31st 2023 in Topeka, Kansas.
Mick attended St. Mary’s Public Schools and was a member of the St. Mary’s Methodist Church. In his teenage years Mick worked on farms and ranches doing various jobs. After high school, Mick joined the Kansas National Guard, serving with the 69th Infantry Brigade. He served 2 years active duty during the Vietnam War. He was proud to serve his country and proud to be a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. Mick retired from the State of Kansas in 2008 after 42 years. He was first a heavy equipment operator and later a heavy equipment supervisor. During retirement, Mick worked part time for 5 years at Substance Abuse Screening Services in Topeka.
Mick was a self-taught mechanic, carpenter, plumber, and electrician. He loved working with his hands. He completed many of his own home renovation projects as well as helping others. He was an avid softball player and a part of many recreational teams for several years. Later in life, Mick was a dedicated fisherman. He spent many weekends on his boat at Lake Perry with his brother, son, and friends. He also enjoyed volleyball, hunting, bowling, and motorcycle riding. He was also a big Kansas Jayhawk fan. His biggest love in life was his family.
In 1968 Mick married Karen Kay Roudybush, having 2 sons. They later divorced.
In 1984 Mick married Tina Marie McCrory, having twin daughters. They later divorced.
Mick was preceded in death by his grandparents: Herman and Daisy Holz, his parents: Paul and Mary Holz, and his younger brother: Floyd (Buzz) Holz.
Mick is survived by sisters: Linda Gregory of St. Mary’s, and Tina Hensley (Lynn) of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, brother: Paul H. Holz (Chris) of St. Mary’s, sons Kenneth Holz (Vickie) of Topeka, Jacob Holz of Topeka, and daughters Ashley Holz of Topeka and Elizabeth Barajas (Jessie) of Mt. Holly, North Carolina. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 10 step-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 8, 2024 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Valley View Cemetery, St. Mary. Mick will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the George J.
