Rhonda Lenherr, 62, of St. Marys, Kansas succumbed to cancer late in the evening of June 7, 2024. She was surrounded by friends and family in her last days. Rhonda was the daughter of Deanna Kovar and the late Jim Gordon, also from St. Marys.
Rhonda was born and raised in St. Marys, attending the local Grade and High Schools, graduating in 1980. She had a rebellious streak in her youth and was lucky enough to have parents that instilled strong morals and principles that she carried through her life. Her sister, Ramona, was her best friend, and they were co-conspirators in many adventures as they were growing up.
In 1980, Rhonda married Steve Lenherr and started their family. She was an incredibly loving and supportive mother. Brian and Brandi both have many stories of her collaboration with fun projects and her having a knack for making any experience entertaining. She brought immense creativity to any situation, and always thought outside-the-box. “We are truly the luckiest pair on the planet to have such an attentive, caring, and giving mother.”
Steve and Rhonda later divorced. Rhonda spent the rest of her years with Ramon Barrera, Jr. north of St. Marys, Kansas.
Rhonda wore many hats, bringing her smile and warmth to many different positions throughout her life. She was a bus driver, an entrepreneur, a laboratory technician, a waitress, worked in retail, and I’m sure there are a few more that we couldn’t think of!
Eventually, Rhonda became a grandparent to Felicity Lenherr and Zellie Rojas, continuing to bring her creativity and zeal for making every experience as grand as possible. She carried so much love in her heart, not only for her grandchildren, but for all of her siblings, nieces, nephews, and all of their subsequent children. Everyone saw her as a beacon for joy and kind consideration.
Rhonda is predeceased by her father, Jim Gordon, and sister, Ramona Schindler. She is survived by her mother, Deanna (Phil) Kovar, Brothers Alan (Tanya) Gordon and Les (Susan) Gordon, children Brian Lenherr (Amanda Sowers) and Brandi (Joe) Rojas, and her grandchildren Felicity Lenherr, and Zellie Rojas.A visitation for Rhonda will be held at Piper Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, June 14th with the rosary being recited at 7:00 pm.
