Richard Johnston

Eskridge- Richard W. Johnston, 75, lifelong resident of Eskridge passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born April 4, 1940 at Eskridge the son of Ronald M. and Ruth "Jennie" Dudney Johnston. Richard graduated from Eskridge High School in 1958. Richard owned Johnston Construction in Eskridge many years. He was a member of the Eskridge Presbyterian Church. He served on the Eskridge City Council, had been a volunteer fireman and was a member of the Eskridge Ball Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William Guy and D. Alan Johnston and a sister, Diane L DeForest. On June 23, 1960 he was united in marriage to Shelia Hewes at Alma. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Brian Johnston, Eskridge and Jim (Carla) Johnston, Westmoreland; his daughter, Tammy (Todd) Chambers, Springfield, MO; a brother, Ron (Kim) Johnston, Dover; sisters, Helen (Don) Kern, Dallas, TX, Karen Barber, Americus, Judy (Laurie) Johnston, Wichita, Becky Johnston, Wichita; sister-in-law, Mary Johnston, Topeka; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Eskridge Community Church. Interment will be in the Eskridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 19, 2015 at Piper Funeral Chapel in Eskridge from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. Casual dress is requested. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Richard W. Johnston Scholarship Fund and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
