Rickey L. Jones, 67, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at The Healthcare Resort of Topeka where he was a resident. He was born November 16, 1955, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the son of Virgil and Helen (Mooney) Jones, both deceased.
Rickey worked most of his life in the cleaning business, where he met his wife, Patricia (Roth). They were married on November 12, 1983, and raised their son, Thomas, in the Hutchinson area; both Patricia and Thomas survive. Other survivors include three sisters: Brenda McAfee and Tina McCoy, Hutchinson, and Mary Gray, Omaha, AR; and four brothers, Dwane Jones, Pratt; Virgil Jones Jr., Hutchinson; Carl Jones, Winnemucca, NV; and Tommie Jones, Hutchinson. His younger brother, John Jones, Hutchinson, is deceased.
Rickey had a real gift of gab and spent a lot of time on the phone calling family and friends. He always wanted to be where the “action” was - he loved playing bingo, coloring and putting puzzles together, especially with his wife. Rickey liked wearing bright-colored clothing and tie-dye shirts. He could often times be found sitting in his recliner listening to old country and gospel music. Rickey enjoyed decorating his room for every holiday. His passion was watching sports – any kind – as long as it involved KU, Chiefs or the Royals.
He leaves behind several friends and family members who will miss him for the color he brought to their lives.
A celebration of life will be held for Rickey at Piper Funeral Home on November 17, 2023, at 11 a.m. to be followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Emmett. Visitors are asked to wear bright or tie-dye shirts, as well as any KU, Chiefs or Royals attire. Memorial donations should be made to the National Kidney Foundation in care of Piper Funeral Home.
