Ronald Douglas Cooke, 89, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017 at a Topeka nursing home. He was born January 8, 1928 at Worcester, England the son of Douglas and Winifred Cooke. Mr. Cooke served in the British Merchant Navy. He and his family moved to Topeka in 1956. Mr. Cooke was a painter and had worked for Zack Taylor and J.F. McGivern. He owned and operated Habberly Canine and was known for his dog training. Mr. Cooke was a founding member of the North Topeka Shepherd Club. He helped organize the Topeka Police Department canine unit in the early 60's. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Painters Union. He was married to Iris Hartwell, they divorced. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Cooke. Survivors include two sons, Greg (Kay) Cooke and Harley Cooke Sr. all of Topeka; his sister, Eileen Roe, Topeka; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Family Memorial Services will be private. Inurnment will be at sea.
