Ruth Ann Martin, born on August 16, 1950, in Zion, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, in Belvue, Kansas. A devoted homemaker and community member, Ruth Ann’s impact is most keenly felt through her family, her work, and her compassionate spirit.
Educated in the Zion Benton High School class of 1968, Ruth Ann continued her studies for two years in college, demonstrating her commitment to personal growth and education. Throughout her life, she embraced various roles, including that of a receptionist, switchboard operator, and a dedicated data entry professional for 25 years with America Needs Fatima. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she owned and operated Sunflower Junction, a craft mall that reflected her passion for creativity and community engagement.
Ruth Ann’s commitment to her family was her proudest accomplishment. She is survived by her loving sons, Patrick Martin, Ryan Martin, and Andrew Martin, as well as her devoted daughters, Allyson Nantz, Mary Schuh, Millissa Martin, Sarah Murphy, and Jennifer McDonald. She is also cherished by her 17 grandchildren, who will carry her legacy forward. Ruth Ann’s kind heart and constant willingness to help others made her a beloved figure not only within her family but across her community.
Her brother, Richard McGillivray, shares in the memories of her vibrant life, while her departed brothers, George McGillivray, James McGillivray, and Clifton McGillivray, will be remembered alongside her as part of her family history.
Ruth Ann was known for her talents in sewing, cross-stitching, and crocheting, hobbies that embodied her nurturing personality and love for crafting. She would always crochet baby bonnets and shoes for all the new mothers. Her willingness to lend a helping hand and support others left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation will take place at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys, Kansas, on April 15, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM followed by a rosary at 6:00 PM. A Mass in her honor will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Maple Hill, Kansas, on April 16, 2025, at 12:00 PM, followed by burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Saint Marys at 1:30 PM.
