Shana Hurla Bird

Shana M. Bird, 46, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at her rural Paxico home.

Shana was born September 22, 1976, in Topeka, the daughter of Vincent and Emily (Quintanilla) Hurla. She was raised in the Paxico community and graduated from Wabaunsee High School.

Shana was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newbury.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Emily, and father-in-law, Merle Bird.

On October 12, 1996, Shana and Daniel Bird were married in Topeka. He survives at their home.

Other survivors include; her father, Vincent Hurla; children, Marisa (Brandon) Gasperich, Andrew Bird, Caleb Bird, Madison (Jory) Schindler, and MaKyna Bird; four brothers, Michael (DeeAnn) Hurla, Chad (Krista) Hurla, Justin (Heather) Hurla, and Adam (Crystal) Hurla; two grandchildren, Oaklee and Bodhi with a granddaughter due in several days.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at Noon, Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newbury. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Shana will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00 until the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Friday, August 25th at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home.
