Steve passed from this life to his eternal reward on March 26th, 2024 at the age of 73. He was born September 26th 1950 to Robert and Marilyn Freeman in Atlanta, Michigan. During his childhood days he would hunt and fish in order to bring home extra food for his family. Later in life fishing would become his lifelong passion.
Shortly after Steve graduated high school he signed up to fight for his country in the Vietnam war. He, like his brothers before him, joined the United States Airforce where he served 3 years and was honorably discharged after he fulfilled his duty with the rank of Sergeant. Steve to his last days proudly wore his veterans hat everywhere he went.
It was during his time in the military that he would meet and fall in love with his wife of 53 years, Rita Theberge. They were joined in marriage on September 16th 1972. A few years later, in 1979 Steve would move his family from Michigan to the small town of St. Marys, KS in order to give his family the Catholic education and faith he and Rita so desperately wanted. He dedicated his life to making sure his family had everything they needed and sometimes would work 3 jobs to provide for them.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marilyn; brothers, Rodney, Terry, Jeff, daughter Tammy Ann and grandson Phineas.
He is survived by his wife Rita; his children Jason, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Dominic, Bernadette, Nicholas, Kathleen, Steven, Benjamin, Christopher, Cecilia and Sebastian; 35 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; siblings Cheryl, Dennis and Randy.
A rosary will be recited at 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2nd at the Immaculata in St. Marys. Requiem Mass will be at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday April 3rd at the Immaculata. He will be buried at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Marys. The family is grateful for all the prayers and outpouring of support.
