Victoria A. Vande Velde, fondly known as Vicki, departed from this world on April 13, 2024, in Topeka, KS, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, cherished memories and was reunited with her husband, Kenny and daughter, Kimmy.
Born on March 7, 1947, in Kansas City, KS, Vicki led a remarkable life that touched the hearts of many. She was a paraprofessional with USD 321, a district supervisor at Casey's General Store, and a clerical assistant for Carpenter Chartered Law Firm in Topeka. However, her most beloved role was as a "granny nanny," which brought her immense joy.
She graduated from Hayden Catholic High School in 1965. She attended Washburn University before graduating from beautician school in Topeka.
Vicki married Kenneth Vande Velde on January 27, 1968, at Assumption Church in Topeka, KS; he preceded her in death on January 7, 1983.
Vicki loved her family and she always found immense pleasure in spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and their friends. She was fun-loving, sweet, and family-oriented, and Vicki's personality shone brightly through her actions. Despite her stubborn determination and fierce independence, she was a loving person.
Outside of work and family engagements, Vicki found solace in cooking, sewing, reading books, savoring cups of coffee, and spending time with her loving friend and devoted caretaker, Rachel Jacenko. Victoria's proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly her family whom she cherished dearly. Later in life, she also found great comfort with her dear feline friend, Ollie.
Vicki is survived by her loving children, Amy (Michael) Lett of St. Marys, Michael (Tina) Vande Velde of Topeka, grandchildren Emma Lett, Jacob Lett, Triston Vande Velde, Sarah Lett, Marlee Vande Velde, Kendrick Vande Velde, brother, Stephen (Ruth) Myers, son-in-law, Roger Gowen, as well as one nephew and two nieces.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Peter and June Myers, and her daughter, Kimberly Gowen.
A visitation for Vicki will be held at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18th and the rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be offered at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 19th with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Emmett.
