Virginia A. "Ginny" Doty, 79, passed away at her St. Marys home on Monday, November 27, 2023.
Ginny was born August 25, 1944, in Wamego, the daughter of Fred "Fritz" and Anna M. Fuhr Meyer. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Grade School and graduated from St. Marys High School.
Ginny had worked at Gockel's IGA (St. Marys) and Falley's Grocery Store (Topeka). She also worked at Mr. D's Drive In and was a babysitter for several local children. Later she dedicated herself to her family but still acted as a contact for Jesuit Mass Cards and Perpetual Enrollments and spent time as a Girl Scout Leader. Ginny was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Ginny kept busy in many ways. She was very dedicated to her family and spent many years focused on raising her children, caring for her mother, and supporting Gary. Ginny enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren as they were also a major focus in her life.
She also enjoyed working on vehicles with Gary, gardening (when the kids were young) and preserving their harvest to share among friends and family. Baking and distributing holiday treats was one of her greatest joys. Playing cards with Gary and board games were also among her enjoyed activities.
Knitting and embroidering were activities that she enjoyed on her own. Great care was given to select the “just right” patterns and colors for her projects as each one was a gift for those she loved.
Ginny and Gary also enjoyed camping and travelling. Trips were focused on visiting friends and historical sites.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ginny was married to Gary Doty on June 4, 1966. He survives at their home.
Other survivors include her son, Dave (Kim) Doty, Silver Lake; her daughter, Teresa (Frank) Rezac, Emmett; a brother, Tom (Virginia) Meyer, Rossville; Grandchildren, Jacob (Amanda) Rezac, Ellen Doty, Jade, and Cole Hodge.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys.
